Music Selection Tips
Music not only creates the ambience of an event, but it also reflects your personality. Whether or not you choose from the traditional wedding repertoire (e.g., Wagner’s Bridal March, Pachelbel’s Canon in D, Bach’s Jesu Joy of Man’s Desiring, Mendelssohn’s Wedding March), music will provide the background that will make your wedding special and memorable.
When you choose Caprice Ensemble to provide your music, you will be provided with a Musical Selections List.  However, there are some guidelines that you should keep in mind when making your decisions.  First and foremost, the site of the wedding will determine the degree of flexibility you’ll have with respect to selecting your music.  If the setting is a park, country club, or hotel and you’ve chosen to have a civil ceremony, there are few restrictions on the musical pieces you may choose. However, if the ceremony is in a church or other house of worship, there may be requirements with respect to music; the clergy should be consulted prior to musical selection. Usually, classical music is acceptable, but it is important that you have a clear understanding of the clergy’s policies.

Regardless of the wedding venue, most brides ask that Caprice Ensemble play a musical prelude about fifteen minutes before the beginning of the ceremony. This music provides background while the guests are being seated. The selections may include classical favorites, hymns, and/or love songs.  You may request that something with special meaning for you be  played.

The ceremony opens with the processional.  As the music begins, the bridal party and then the bride march down the aisle.

The bride chooses either one piece for everyone or two separate pieces, one for the bridal party and one for herself.

During the ceremony itself there are specific times when music may be incorporated.  They include the following: between readings, after the marriage vows, or during the lighting of the unity candle. The choice is dependent on the desires of the couple and on the type of ceremony they have chosen.

The ceremony ends with the playing of the recessional.  As the couple and their attendants walk down the aisle, a musical selection reflecting the happiness of the occasion is played.
Caprice Ensemble provides the couple with a Music Selections List.  Also, if requested, a demo CD will be mailed to the couple. We’re always happy to answer questions and provide advice with respect to selecting the music that will enhance your special day!
